Petition Action

End firearms act banning pistols and semi-automatic rifles

Additional Information

This e-petition is to end the firearms(amendment)(no.2) act 1997 banning the ownership of high-caliber pistols and semi-automatic rifles over .22lr rim fire.
The act came in to affect after the dunblane massacre 1996, however crimes in which banned firearms are involved has risen from 5,209 in 1998/99 to 9,865 in 2008/09 a rise of around 89% meanwhile in the USA violent crimes and burglaries dropped for a fifth consecutive year in 2011 as more and more people purchased these firearms. The uk rise could be due to criminals have nothing to fear from citizens or police they try to rob, rape or murder.
The end of the act could also bring a whole new source of income to the uk, last year the USA firearms industry was valued at $33 billion(£19,754,564,501) bringing in around $5billion(£2,993,115,837) in revenue tax and creating many new jobs which the uk vitally needs. All information can be found online.
