Safeguard hedgerow habitat in the payment of field border set-aside subsidies
Ensure that payments for field border set-aside allocations are made ONLY where accompanying hedgerow is sustainably managed.
Disallow tractor-driven rotary or flail blade hedge cutting on an annual/bi-annual basis to constitute 'sustainability' and legislate against it in subsidy allowance.
Hedgerow habitat is essential for a broad spectrum of wildlife across the UK ecosystem. Yet Government-granted subsidies for field border set-aside strips do not presently include hedgerow within the scope of protection.
We ask that annual and biannual cutting of hedge lines with tractor-driven machinery will disqualify the landowner from receipt of these subsidies, since this practice significantly reduces wildlife support and current grants do not represent good value for the tax payer.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about payments for set-aside agricultural land and protection of hedgerows, but we're not sure if all you want is for hedgerows that are subject to annual or biannual cutting with tractor-driven machinery to be made ineligible for these payments, or if you want there to be other requirements for the safeguarding of any hedgerows covered by these payments.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
