Petition Action

Work internationally to cancel Ukraine’s foreign debt

Petition Details

Work with the other countries of the G20, together with the World Bank and the IMF to use the Debt Service Suspension Initiative to cancel Ukraine's Foreign Debt. Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe by GDP per capita and it cannot afford to repay the debt it owes

Additional Information

Governments need to act through international bodies like the IMF and the World Bank. The debt Ukraine has is estimated be one third of the country's total economy.

Ukraine's debt repayment requirements this year are over $7.3 billion, which is more than its annual education budget.

Since 2014 Ukraine has had to borrow $61 billion and the damage done since the Russian invasion is estimated to be $100 billion. Ukraine cannot possible afford to repay this and so the debt needs to be cancelled
