Petition Action

Amend Estate Agents Act to prioritise buyers who wish to live in the property.

Petition Details

There should be a minimum training standard set required for Estate agents to stop Estate agents lying about properties and no "VIP Homefinder" service allowed for buyers for investment by law.

Additional Information

Companies such as Ward Homes are prioritising buyers (mainly cash buyers) to view properties so general Joe public who just want to live in a house are not even able to view the property to buy. Those with a chain should be allowed to view the property with higher priority than buyers for investment

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about who to allow to view and buy a home are a matter for the homeowner, not the UK Government or Parliament.

It is already possible to complain about an estate agent if you are unhappy with their services, including if they are dishonest. You can find out how to complain to estate agent here: www.tpos.co.uk/consumers/how-to-make-a-complaint
