Petition Action

Update KCSIE to protect children from peer on peer abuse to an absolute decree.

Petition Details

I think that KCSIE Must be updated in a way that ensures children are protected to a higher degree. Many more parts of KCSIE guidance must be changed so that schools cannot avoid taking steps within a child’s best personal interest (including DSLs, headteachers, SLT etc), unless it would cause harm.

Additional Information

If a child has been a victim of peer on peer abuse (online, physical, sexual, or any other harm - perceived or real) there’s many things a school should do, but nothing they must do. Schools must be made to allow a child to make their own choices in regards to what happens after a report of violence (moving class, separated from the perpetrator). Those who uphold a sustained pattern of abuse should be looked at as candidates for expulsion (especially where they could harm other children)

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about the action schools take in response to bullying, but we're not sure what changes you want to be made to the Government's statutory guidance on keeping children
safe in education, or what new requirements you want to be imposed on schools.

Section 89 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 already provides that maintained schools must have measures to encourage good behaviour and prevent all forms of bullying amongst pupils, and the Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014 provide that the proprietor of an Academy or other independent school ensures that bullying at the school is prevented in so far as reasonably practicable, by the drawing up and implementation of an effective anti-bullying strategy

You could start a new petition explaining more clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
