Stop the extension of School days
New proposals aim to extend the school day for all children from 9am-6pm as well as a possibility of 'Saturday school' and even adding an extra two weeks to school terms.
This is the wrong decision as pupils will simply be placed under more pressure and face more stress. This decision will not only limit the amount of family time for a parent and child, but it will also reduce the participation of extra curriculum activities outside of school, as well as part-time work for older students.
Recent studies show stress at school is already the main cause to depression with 54% of students claiming to have low self esteem due to school related worries
Government statistics show that one in 10 children aged 5-16 in the UK has a clinically diagnosable mental health problem related to school stress. (More can be read in the article below)
