Reform arrangements for practical driving tests to tackle backlog

Petition Details

Give registered driving instructors the role of 'signing off' learner drivers as competent at driving manoeuvres, and only allow a practical test to be booked once a learner is signed off in this way. The reversing exercise could then be removed from the practical test.

Additional Information

These changes would mean that the practical driving test would be shorter, as there would be no need to test learners on a reversing manoeuvre, and by allowing a practical driving test to be booked once a learner is signed off by a registered driving instructor, it will stop tests being booked by people who simply want to 'have a go'. This should help increase availability of driving tests, and reduce the backlog.
