Petition Action

Make the Sex Offenders Register publicly accessible

Petition Details

I would like the Sex Offenders Register to be open to the public.
People have the right to safety, therefore they should be allowed to search the database to acquire knowledge of such offences. This would give people the power and the confidence to ensure their safety in a number of situations.

Additional Information

In 2019 there were a total of over 164,000 reported sexual assaults, 113,869 more cases than in 2009.
S/A IS STILL HAPPENING. What can we do to deter the perpetrators?
When my abuser signed the Sex Offenders Register, I was shocked to learn that this wasn’t information that he had to disclose with future partners and it wasn’t something that the public would be able to access. Would the fear of public knowledge be enough to make perpetrators think twice? I think it is about time we find out.
