Petition Action

The option for people of all ages to work a 4 day week instead of a 5 day week.

Petition Details

Instead of working 5 days a week everyone should be able to have the option to work 4 days a week due to the stress, issues and anxiety from education and work.

Additional Information

A lot of people suffer from mental issues, anxiety, bullying, depression etc. So if we had a 4 day working week it would reduce the problems and issues people across the UK are struggling with.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Deciding whether to allow staff to work a four day week is a matter for employers, not the UK Government or the House of Commons. In any case, employees are already entitled to request a four day working week.

UK law places limits on the total amount of time someone can work during a week and the minimum amount they can be paid an hour, but it doesn't specify how many or which days of the week they have to work.

You could start a new petition calling on the Government to reduce the maximum number of hours someone is allowed to work during a week, to ensure they would only work a four day week, if that is something you would like to see happen.
