Protect LGBT asylum-seekers from Africa and Mid-East!
Uganda just brought into law a bill imposing life imprisonment for homosexuality and requiring everyone to report suspected homosexuality to the authorities.
Today, a Ugandan national paper called out and named the 'Top 200 Homosexuals', targeting these individuals for abuse, harassment and persecution.
What is it like for a part of your character, so essential to who you are, to mark you out as a social outcast and serious criminal?
This is the situation for people across Africa and the Middle East.
As signatories to the Geneva and European Conventions on Human Rights and, fundamentally, as a decent society, we have a duty to protect people who escape sexuality-persecution.
However, the government policy people claiming asylum for their sexuality has been conspicuously ambiguous and at worst hostile, telling some to ‘go home and hide it’.
We petition the government to bring forward clear criteria under which people can claim asylum for sexuality-persecution.
