Petition Action

Time for change in our UK courts and sentencing guidelines

Petition Details

Sentencing shouldn't be left to one judge as I have sat through a trial where I felt the judge had made his own feelings towards a defendant and led to an excessive sentence for the crime

Additional Information

As only government or parliament can make this change,UK judges are not held accountable for giving these excessive sentences

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about current arrangements for sentencing, but it's not clear what you want these to be replaced with.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
