Include sign language in the National Curriculum for KS1 and KS2.
Add sign language to the national curriculum - as a mandatory subject to be taught at primary level education (and an optional choice in secondary education).
It's estimated there are about 9 million deaf and hard of hearing adults in the UK, that is about 18% of the total population. It's important they can communicate in wider society and that other people have the skills to enable them to do so.
Learning sign language speeds up speech development, and research shows children score 17% higher on standardised tests administered in the younger school years than children who do not know sign language.
