Petition Action

Religious holidays be made public holidays

Petition Details

The Government should make religious holidays public holidays.

Additional Information

The UK has people from diverse walks of life; Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh to name a few.

As a country we talk about being inclusive. In addition, many people in work struggle to get time off and are having to explain themselves. Why should someone have to use annual leave entitlement to take time off to observe a religious festival when special consideration is already given to those of us who celebrate Christmas and Easter (Christian holidays)?

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want to see more religious holidays made public holidays, but there are a large number of religious holidays, and it's not clear which of these you want to be made public holidays.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
