Suspend major development applications on green belt and protected land
Impose a moratorium on all applications and decisions regarding major developments on protected land until:
• Local housing targets are recalculated using 2022 data
• Local Plans are amended to reflect new targets
• “Very special circumstances” and protections for designated land are refined
Local Plans are incomplete in many areas and Government-imposed housing targets not being met.
Developers appeal to the Planning Inspectorate when refused permission locally to build on designated protected land.
We believe local decisions are being influenced by possible legal costs, especially where developers have made it clear they will appeal a refusal.
As a result, we believe many developments are being approved, against the wishes of local communities, while future generations are being robbed of the legacy of the countryside and open spaces.
