Reform the prison system and shift its focus towards restorative justice.
To correct previous failings to rehabilitate inmates of British prisons, adopting a restorative justice model as seen in the Norwegian system, thereby reducing reoffending rates, alongside those of self-harm and suicide.
Our current prison system is failing our inmates and our society. Reoffending rates are a shocking 49% within a year, compared to only 20% in Norway. Our cost cutting and quick fixes lead to higher costs in the long run, as well as leaving our citizens at risk. Furthermore, there is a mental health crises within our prisons, with record high suicide and self harm rates. The government has a responsibility to make a change.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you want to see the UK's prison system reformed, but we're not sure exactly changes what you'd like the Government or Parliament to make.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
