Amend Highway Code & impose penalties to deter risky driving around learner cars
81% of learner drivers experience abuse from other road users. As a result, 72% make more mistakes putting them and other road users at risk.
The Highway Code should be updated to allow more space around learner cars, and a £200 penalty/3 points should be given to offenders who don’t adhere to this
Marmalade's survey of Young Drivers, Parents & Driving Instructors (https://bit.ly/38D6RN6) reveals two-thirds of learners were subjected to tailgating and aggressive overtaking.
As a result, learners make more mistakes and 68% became more nervous. 49% have had to pull over & 8% gave up driving altogether. 44% reported being cut-up and 59% honked at.
This aggressive behaviour needs to stop. Learners are vulnerable & dangerous drivers are putting them & other road users at risk.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about the safety and wellbeing of learner drivers, but we're not sure exactly what changes you'd like to be made to the Highway Code, or in what circumstances you want drivers to be subject to a fine/points on their licence.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
