Petition Action

Investigate Banks who have closed customers bank accounts without just cause.

Petition Details

Bring the banks (especially Natwest) under the law to protect the rights of all customers from the poorest to the richest. Banking conitions should be define by the law not the banks, who seem to be able to change their terms with impunity.

Additional Information

There seems to be no legislation in place to safeguard customers from their accounts being closed or protect them from the hardship caused by doing so. Banks should exist to provide a service to the public and there should be legislation in place to protect their customers from being without banking services

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions around the operation of bank accounts are a matter for individual banks rather than for the Government. If you'd like to make a complaint about your experience, the Financial Ombudsman will be able to help you: www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/
