Require the BBC to reconsider the decision to cut South Today (Oxford).
Request that the BBC reconsider the axing of the regional news opt out for Oxford. The Northern part of the South Today news region is significantly distinct from Southampton. A world class University in a land locked area in the heart of the country needs its own local news service.
Require the BBC to suspend the decision while a Select Committee investigates the circumstances and evidence that the BBC considered in its decision making process. The BBC protected the Asian Network: likewise it should protect regional news gathering in the heart of England.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to local BBC services.
