Petition Action

Investigate and adjust unnecessary profiteering by Supermarkets with price rises

Petition Details

Government please intervene on recent supermarket price increases and stop the big Supermarkets unfair price upload on most of their items.
The price increase does seem random, and not calculated by any formula or substance - 50p here and 75p there.
Farmfoods have increased but still reasonable ??

Additional Information

Do a full study of just how genuine the price rises are and how they are arrived at by the Supermarkets and maybe other stores - guess the results would be telling.
By looking in to this matter I guess the prices would (as if by magic) start to fall, and help everybody - including the Government.
Thank you.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about the price of retail goods are a matter for individual retailers, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you believe there is a competition issue affecting the retail market you could report this to the Competition and Markets Authority, which investigates concerns about competition: www.gov.uk/guidance/tell-the-cma-about-a-competition-or-market-problem
