Review how the NHS determine whether people are a healthy weight
Currently the most common method to check if someone is a a healthy weight is body mass index (BMI). However, we believe this index is unsatisfactory, and can exacerbate or even lead to body dysmorphia, because it is based solely on height and weight.
The Government should review how the NHS determine whether people are a healthy weight, with a view to establishing if it is still suitable for the body mass index (BMI) to be used for this purpose.
This review should look at the impact current practice can have on patients' mental health, especially for those who suffer from body-image issues.
