Extend abortion rights to include being permitted for any reason
Introduce legislation modifying the law in England and Wales to provide the right for abortions to be permitted for any reason. Either up to 24 weeks, or 12 in common with Northern Ireland.
Also require only one practitioner to certify that any of the other grounds are met, rather than two.
It is important that the right to access an abortion is protected. Currently there are differences between UK countries in the rights to access abortion. Introducing a right for any reason, up to 24 weeks, or 12 weeks in common with NI, would secure access to this important healthcare need.
Reducing certification for other reasons to one practitioner also increases privacy and ensures prompt access to services.
