Call a General Election to vote in the new prime minister

Petition Details

Now that Boris Johnson has resigned a General Election election should be called so that the public can vote on who governs their country.

Additional Information

The Conservative Party voting in a new leader to become the prime minister does not give the UK public a chance to have a say in who is running the country. This is especially important at this time during the cost of living crisis. A general election will ensure the new prime minister has the support of the general public.

A General Election gives constituents the opportunity to vote for their local MP, but in the UK the Prime Minister is not directly elected. The Prime Minister is normally the leader of the party that wins the most seats at a general election.
