Petition Action

Adhere to security, stop information being leaked to any form of media outlets

Petition Details

To stop any government office personnel passing on information to any forms of media without two forms of written consent, from PM and section leader.

Additional Information

After the recent partygate scandal, its noticed that people are leaking photos and information to push their own agenda to the media. This needs to be addressed as a breach of security as no government office should be passing information or unauthorised correspondence to any form of media, without written permission or consent from their immediate team leader and an elected member its about.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Civil Service code already requires that officials have Ministerial authorisation for any contact with the media: www.gov.uk/government/publications/civil-service-code/the-civil-service-code

It is up to individual departments whether to take disciplinary action for any alleged wrongdoing by civil servants, including leaking information to the media without appropriate authorisation.
