Change health and safety laws to allow all workers to wear shorts above 20”

Petition Details

To allow all workers (in particular people working on site) to be allowed to wear shorts in warm weather

Additional Information

Its a joke allowing people to work with trousers on in warm weather. Its hard enough doing intensive labour without having to risk heat stroke etc

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for. Decisions about uniforms for workers, including relaxing requirements to wear uniforms in hot weather, are a matter for individual employers, not the UK Government or Parliament.

Employers already have legal obligations to ensure the health and safety of their workers, and the Health and Safety Executive has published guidance on how to respond to the effects of the weather, which you can read here: www.hse.gov.uk/temperature/outdoor.htm
