Remove cap on university places for medicine , dentistry and healthcare roles

Petition Details

Uk desperately need more nurses doctors dentists and allied health professionals. The government cap the number of places universities can have for these courses . If universities to decide the number of students they can take each year , with adequate funding we can ensure the nhs has a future

Additional Information

In 5 years the UK will not have enough qualified health professionals to provide safe and continuous care for the public. Instead trying to cover the NHS with locums and international recruitment, even this is failing to attract the levels needed . We need to invest in training and retaining health professionals now

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There are not currently limits on the number of students who can study certain courses.

The Government has run a consultation on higher education reform, including the possibility of student number controls, but the Government has not yet published the outcome of this consultation, or said whether it will implement limits on student numbers.

You can read the Government's consultation here: consult.education.gov.uk/higher-education-reform/higher-education-he-reform/supporting_documents/HE_reform_commandpaperweb_version.pdf

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to commit not to limiting the number of places universities can offer for certain courses, if that's what you want to happen.
