Petition Action

Stop the Price Cap Rise

Petition Details

The price cap rise planned in October and January should not go ahead.
Energy companies can use their recent record profits to buy energy instead of using the pocket of U.K. customers.

Additional Information

This will improve the lives of millions of people. It’s a step well within the control of the government. Energy companies still in existence in the summer of 2022 will be able to afford the wholesale energy purchases using their vast profits from the first half of 2022.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The calculation of the energy price cap is a matter for the regulator Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the UK Government and House of Commons. You can find out more about how the price cap is calculated here: www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/check-if-energy-price-cap-affects-you.
