Launch a public enquiry into the legitimacy of 2022 energy price rises

Petition Details

Given that fuel and energy has a nock on effect on all prices in the U.K. to the public. Has the Government shown negligence towards the management of the country by enabling energy firms to raise prices as high as they have, and otherwise propose to.

Additional Information

All prices are increasing from simple groceries and delivery costs to tech and industry in an effort to cover increased energy costs. The Government announced at the beginning of 2022 they had no concerns over fuel shortages as they announced the U.K. only relied on Russia for 3%
Within one or two months household energy went from around £150 per month to around £230 per month in July.
The government has not considered the damage to the economy of the general public not being able to pay this.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We understand you want a public inquiry into energy prices, but we're not sure what you want the inquiry to consider. Specifically, we're not sure what you mean by 'legitimacy' of price rises and whether you want an inquiry into the Government's role in energy prices, or the role of energy companies.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. You might also like to sign this petition

Unclear - could have inquiry into causes/investigate increases.
