To hold a general election now
Because the people of this country did not vote for either candidate running for prime minister now

A General Election gives constituents the opportunity to vote for their local MP, but in the UK the Prime Minister is not directly elected. The Prime Minister is normally the leader of the party that wins the most seats at a general election.
