Petition Action

NHS hospitals to provide adequate meals for women with gestational diabetes

Petition Details

To make changes within all NHS trusts to be able to accommodate to the dietary requirements of pregnant women with gestational diabetes whilst as an inpatient or in labour.

Additional Information

Currently, pregnant women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes are not provided adequate meals when they are required to stay in hospital.
This means that meals have to be brought into the hospital which could mean the father of the child/ birth partner misses the birth.
Gestational diabetes can be extremely harmful to an unborn baby if not managed properly which is why the NHS test for it.
To then not to be able to accommodate to this if required to stay does not seem right.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about patient care, including provision of meals, are a matter for individual NHS Trusts, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you are unhappy about any aspect of NHS care, treatment or service you can find out how to complain about this here: www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/about-the-nhs/how-to-complain-to-the-nhs/
