Petition Action

Amend the Procurement Bill to enshrine positive environmental obligations.

Petition Details

The Procurement Bill should create a legal obligation on Contracting Authorities ensuring all specifications and contractors have a net positive impact upon the environment and that this requirement is designed into the procurement and management of public spend for all goods, services and works.

Additional Information

Climate change is an existential threat to every UK citizen and future generations. The Public Sector spends £300B per annum, taxpayers’ money should be spent to prevent negative climate impact and encourage positive climate solutions and innovation. Creating a legal obligation to incorporate net positive environmental considerations supports Governments strategy of being a world leader in climate change, its COP26 and broader climate obligations, while encouraging economic growth.
