Level Up National Insurance by Scrapping the Upper Earnings Limit

Petition Details

Remove the Upper Earnings Limit on National Insurance so everyone pays full National Insurance on all income over £242 a week - equivalent to £12.5k pa.

The NI contribution rate currently falls from 13.25% to 3.25% for income over £967 a week - equivalent to £50k pa.

Additional Information

Remove the higher earnings limit so higher earners pay at the full rate on all income.

National Insurance for someone on an average salary of £35k is £3k. On £50k it is £5k. On £100k it only goes up to £6.6k. On £250k it only reaches £11,5k
NI disproportionately affects the income of middle earners.
NI was supposed to be for the NHS and Pensions.
But - the Government can spend NI contributions anywhere it likes.
And - whilst people are paying more NI funding for the NHS has fallen in real terms.
Now is the time to Level Up National Insurance.
