Cease alcohol sale and remove subsidy for catering in parliament
The public purse needs to stop being abused to subsidise the massive amounts of alcohol being consumed every year on the parliamentary estate. The consumption of alcohol in the workplace of parliament needs to stop immediately.
The alcohol budget is far too expensive and unnecessary. In the time of a cost of living crisis, it needs to go. No other workplace on the country would tolerate this much spent on drink, at work! The public can not afford to eat. Families are struggling and those same families are paying towards the food of some members on over £80,000 a year.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The House of Commons Catering service does not provide a subsidised service in the commercial sense of the word. Some venues make a profit, while in other venues the cost of providing the service does exceed the income received in sales due to the irregular hours and unpredictability of parliamentary business. The House of Commons publishes details of the cost of House of Commons catering services: www.parliament.uk/site-information/foi/transparency-publications/hoc-transparency-publications/catering-services/transparency-reporting-catering-services/
We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:
Ban the sale and consumption of alcohol on any government/parliamentary estates: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/619523
