Fund a national screening programme for Prostate Cancer
Legislation should be passed to introduce a national screening programme for Prostate Cancer, in the same way breast and cervical cancer has been screened for years. Diagnosing Prostate Cancer early makes it completely treatable which would save thousands of lives and ease the pressure on the NHS.
Over 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. Every 45 minutes a man dies from prostate cancer, that's more than 12,000 men every year.
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Early intervention will typical see the benefit of extending life, whilst eliminating the cost to the NHS of expensive cancer care. This makes the cost benefit model ideal for the NHS looking a ways to save. To be effective it must be accompanied by a national press campaign
