Do not renew Avanti West Coast franchise contract
The Department for Transport should not renew the franchise contract for operating the West Coast main line awarded to Avanti West Coast.
The company charges extortionate fares, while providing terrible service with multi-hour delays and with frequent cancellations.
The government should make sure the UK has affordable and reliable transport connections. If this cannot be provided, which is blatantly clear in Avanti West Coast's case, the government should take control of the line as they have done successfully with others to fix service for customers.
