Draft an act to speed the restoration of stolen artworks to countries of origin.
We request that parliament vote into law an Act of Restitution to restore items of treasure, value and religious and spiritual, cultural and historic importance to those peoples whose lands were governed by Great Britain as subject nations under colonial rule.
The implication and intent of an Act of Restitution being to correct misguided actions of the past and to generate a global sentiment of reconciliation that will have beneficial ramifications for both Great Britain and her erstwhile dependencies and colonies.
We see that only good would come of such a gesture of goodwill, set in law, honestly made and swiftly carried out, that would permeate the generations across the world and set an example for other like nations to follow.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you want to see more done to enable the repatriation of certain cultural items, but it's not clear new powers or obligations you want this new 'Act of Restitution' to create.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, we could accept a petition calling on the Government to create a new body with powers to consider applications for the return of cultural items from other countries, and order their return where it approves such an application.
