Ensure that a Prime Minister is elected by General Election or ballot of MPs.
When a replacement leader of the Party of Government is required this shall be by secret ballot of that parties MPs. Should the party of government attempt to hold a ballot of members to indicate their choice of leader this should trigger a General Election within 6 weeks.
Our last 3 Prime Ministers have come into office after an election by party members. In a Parliamentary Democracy voters elect a member of parliament to represent their interests and follow the mandate received by their party. It is undemocratic for a Prime Minister to be selected other than by a vote of MP’s or by a General Election.
