Resume Right to Buy - Housing association & Council Tenants

Petition Details

This is a petition to get some movement on the Right To Buy option for housing association and Council Tenants. Tenants who have been renting for a minimum of 3 year including those on assured tenancy to qualify

Additional Information

The Gov will need to communicate/ Publish to the social housing companies in the UK that tenants in housing association properties who have been tenants for a minimum of 3 years have the right to buy and utilise the discount available. Those on assured tenancy also included. Boris Johnson announced it would commence however due to no movement from the Gov. We would like to have this option available this year.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Most council tenants already have the right to buy their council home under the Right to Buy scheme. You can find out more about this scheme here: www.gov.uk/right-to-buy-buying-your-council-home

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to extend the Right to Buy to housing association tenants, if that's what you want to happen.
