Petition Action

Make all MPs pay 48% tax and all other citizens pay 7%, maximum tax.

Petition Details

I would like to increase all taxes for Members of Parliament to 48% (including VAT). I would also like to reduce all other Citizens taxes from 20% to 7% maximum (including VAT).

Additional Information

This is because: the enormous wages of a Member of Parliament mean that our British tax payers money goes straight to them with other (smaller) amounts going to services such as Hospitals and Police work. This means that the minimal taxes -compared to their enormous income - simply pay for their own comforts and their own wages.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you want to see changes to tax rates, but we're not sure exactly how you want these changes to work. Your petition refers to reducing all taxes on citizens from 20% to 7%, but many taxes are not currently at 20%.

Because MPs make up a very small proportion of taxpayers the change you have suggested would result in a significant reduction in public revenue, and therefore the public services the Government would be able to afford to provide, and it is not clear if this is what you intend.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
