Amend Housing Act 1988 so leaseholders cannot be treated as ASTs
Leasehold properties could become unsaleable because under the Housing Act 1988 the freeholder could seek to evict the leaseholder as an Assured Shorthold Tenant for non-payment of ground rent, where this is more than £250 a year.
We want the Housing Act 1988 to be amended so freeholders cannot start eviction proceedings on the basis of non-payment of ground rent, as though the leaseholder were an Assured Shorthold Tenant.
