Change the law that allows retailers to expire gift cards without redemption.
Retailers take money for gift cards and set an expiry time (eg. 24 months). After that you can no longer use the gift card and the retailer keeps the money. This should not be a legal practice, they receive money with the expectation the gift card is equal to money, which does not expire.
Money Saving Expert forums show hundreds of people lose money to this practice every year, some gift cards can contain up to £500 each. If the time expires, there is no recourse to the gift card holder, the retailer just declines to honour the value of the card.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about the terms and conditions for gift cards, including any expiry dates, are a matter for individual retailers, not the UK Government or Parliament.
