Allow Members Of The Public To Hold A Vote Of No Confidence In The Government

Petition Details

Parliament should allow members of the public to hold a Vote of No Confidence in the Conservative Government.

Once a Prime Minister has either been ousted out of office and/or left on his or her own free will. It should be put into law that a general election is automatically triggered.

Additional Information

Since the Conservative Government have crashed the economy, raised taxes, caused continued austerity and poverty, and people’s mental health, well-being and a risk of losing lives. A vote should be held on triggering a general election from the electorate.

It is also unfair that Conservative members are allowed to choose who to become PM. Yet, the rest of us are not allowed. Therefore, rest of the public should be able to choose as it is us they are working for as well, not just Tory members.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:

Introduce a mechanism for the public to call a 'No Confidence Referendum': petition.parliament.uk/petitions/624332

Require a referendum on whether to hold an early general election if PM changes: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/623922

If a Prime Minister resigns a general election should be called: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/620016

We can't accept petitions about the election of party leaders, as this is a matter for individual political parties, but could accept a petition calling for the Prime Minister to be elected by the public, if that's something you'd like to happen.
