Petition Action

Introduce mandatory biometric identity cards

Petition Details

I would like the UK Government to introduce a mandatory biometric identity card system as proof of rights to be in the country legally. Everyone should be required to carry their identity card and produce it on request by the authorities.

Additional Information

Failure to produce a card would mean an individual could be detained and their identity checked to see if they are in the country legally.

These cards would be linked to a central database of all individuals legally allowed to be in the country, and their biometric data.

This could help make it easier for the authorities to identify and detain those illegally in the country.
