The government should buy agricultural land, to sell to, or develop themselves

Petition Details

Progressive taxation is a precedent that needs to be broken. It is a failing system and a new methods to raise public funds to be put in place. This petition will kill two birds with one stone: raise funds and tackle the housing crisis, to provide homes.

Additional Information

The granting of planning permission of local council plans to areas of land never considered before is tantamount to winning the lottery for these land owners, despite them not investing anything to earn this new found wealth.

Therefore who should be the beneficiary to this policy change? The taxpayer. The government should acquire the cheap agricultural (or other) land themselves, grant development on it for houses, and take the profit to the taxpayer. 70% of England land is agricultural.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure whether you want the Government to compulsarily purchase land at a low rate, or if you would like the Government to become a developer/create a nationalised development company.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
