Petition Action

legislation to cap private landlords from raising rent beyond its fair value

Petition Details

Enforce legislation that prevents landlords from raising rent to cover rising mortgage interest rates. The risk of a loan increasing should not be the tenants liability.

Buy-to-let mortgages are predatory and used as a no risk loan at the detriment of tenants becoming homeless.

Additional Information

Cap the amount a landlord is allowed to legally charge a tenant; based on measurable criteria, such as: amount of rooms.
The same legislation that governs private social-housing rental charges.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We understand you'd like a rent increase cap, but we're not sure what you mean by 'fair value', such as increased by CPI or RPI or a lower rate.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
