Legislate to ban discrimination on the grounds of social class
The Government should ban discrimination by social class, in the same way that other characteristics are protected by the Equality Act. It should amend the Equality Act to provide additional legal powers to the Equality and Human Rights Commission to include class discrimination in its mandate.
From the statistics concerning health, education, salary gaps and mortality, class continues to play a vital role in determining life chances and opportunities. Class is deeply embedded into institutional cultures and despite the evidence of the continuing importance of class, it is ignored by most legislation.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
