Legislate that organisations/companies have a bereavement and power of attorney department staffed by specialist employees and provide a free call number easily visible on websites and paper correspondence.

Additional Information

Closing/changing accounts after the death of a relative/looking after the affairs of someone without mental capacity is emotionally challenging and stressful. It is harder when companies confuse technology with service. Companies should have a specialist, trained department providing a sensitive service to customers and a free phone number to be shown prominently on websites and paper correspondence. Customers should expect their call to answered quickly and efficiently by a person.
