Prepare a National Emergency Response to support the NHS
We want the Government to recognise the issues facing the NHS as a National Emergency, and take urgent action to support the NHS. The Government should explore all possible avenues to reduce threats to patient safety, including deploying the military to support NHS services and supply chains.
Patient safety is currently severely at risk as acutely unwell patients are waiting record times for ambulances and A&E care, many waiting 15-30hours for care for life threatening illnesses. Clinicians are managing patients in the back of ambulances. There are shortages of Oxygen cylinders. Excess morbidity and mortality is occurring due to delays in care. The current Government promises have been focused on dealing with longer term NHS issues and not immediate need.
