Reform online safety laws to require verification for social media accounts
We would like the government to engage with social media sites to require account verification within the jurisdiction of the UK. Regulations surrounding social media is insufficient individuals are making numerous accounts to abuse and harass others.
Online harassment within the UK is widespread. 1 in 5 women have experienced online abuse or harassment. There are insufficient regulations to protect individuals from online abuse. Laws protecting individuals are also unclear. People are setting up fake accounts, with ease, to troll others. Account verification and the clamping down on fake accounts will make it easier to identify those behind the accounts and to enforce current laws.
