Ensure the income threshold for Pension Credit is higher than the State Pension
Currently the single person income threshold for Pension Credit is £182.60 a week, but the new State Pension is £185.15 per week.
This means many pensioners cannot claim Pension Credit because their State Pension is £2.55 over the income threshold.
Many pensioners cannot claim Pension Credit because they receive a full State Pension so are just over the threshold to be eligible for this benefit.
This means they miss out on:
Cold weather payments
Warm Home Discount
Cost of Living payments
Free glasses
Free dental care
Full Housing Benefit and Council Tax discount
Free TV licence
This is grossly unfair when they are just £2.55 above the threshold to claim and are struggling to make ends meet.
