Introduce police portable scanners to spot people carrying knives.
It’s time to use scanners in police cars and units to tackle knife crime. Every carried weapon will be used eventually. This has to stop before accidents happen.

Tackle knife crimes and save lives before damage happens. Kids now feel it’s ok to carry knives and don’t see any consequences happening if they do. A 34% increase in March 2022 on offences involving knife or sharp objects from 2010/2011 highlights the need to change in order to restore the safety of the streets. Education and guidance are a must but not enough. Offenders need to be captured and punished before the weapon is used. Deterrent punishments must be made.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
The police can already use technology like this to identify people illegally carrying knives. It is for chief constables and police authorities to decide on the equipment needed to deliver operational policing within their force area.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to fund the provision of portable scanners to police forces, but it would be up to individual forces how to deploy these.
